Health Care Providers

Physicians

Pediatricians and associated health care providers need the most up-to-date information and data on childhood gender identity and variance. We provide trainings for providers in individual or group practices. Trainings are available in a range of formats: lunch time forums, selectives, Grand Rounds, classroom presentations, and more. Topics include:

  • Natural development of gender identity and normal gender variations
  • Providing services for families with gender non-conforming children and teens
  • Effects of parental acceptance or rejection of children's gender non-conforming behavior
  • Methods to increase family support and reduce negative health and mental health outcomes
  • How to provide practical support and information to families and children
  • Overview of clinical aspects of care and potential endocrinological pathways for pre-pubescent and pubescent children
  • Religious, cultural and ethnic considerations impacting families and a child's gender expression

Mental Health Providers

The formation of gender identity is a dynamic, rapidly developing area of practice that requires a basic knowledge framework and ongoing updates. We provide training to mental health care providers, outlining the most effective approaches for working with children and families, based on current research related to gender identity development in young children and adolescents. We offer clinical seminars which include case studies, breakout groups for smaller discussions, extensive question and answer sessions, and relevant videos.

We provide an engaging, thought-provoking look at the complexities of gender and how to make these issues accessible for families of diverse backgrounds. We provide instruction on how to further understanding, including an examination of the ethnic and cultural influences that can affect family members' perceptions and behaviors.
