Sibling Support

Thursday, 09 February 2012
It’s always heartwarming to hear stories of children whose families support them unconditionally in their self-expression, but reality is often more bittersweet.

For instance, look at this story, originally posted at Huffington Post, about a boy buying his younger brother a birthday present. When their father derided and threatened to punish his younger child for choosing items he thought were too feminine, the older brother stepped in to support and protect his sibling.

Too frequently, children are mistreated and maligned for trying to be who they really are. Even more than the parents who support their children, the siblings who do so in spite of a parent’s discouragement should be praised - their support many not be easy, and can make all the difference in a difficult life.
