Gender Spectrum is excited to announce that the 2014 Gender Spectrum Professionals' Symposium will take place July 25th at Saint Mary's College of California in Moraga, CA. Bringing together providers from across the country and beyond, the theme for this year's event is Expanding Understandings of Gender.

From Facebook's announcement about multiple gender options to our recent collaboration with HRC to release the report "Supporting and Caring for our Gender-Expansive Youth," the topic of gender diversity continues to demand our attention. Our Professionals' Symposium will offer a range of programming, activities and immediately accessible resources designed to build your capacity to work with young people around their gender identity and expression. As in previous years, we anticipate offering continuing education credits for medical, mental health and legal professionals attending the workshop.

Along with a range of topics related to working specifically with transgender children and youth, the day will also address the issues of societal acceptance for all gender expansive youth (and their families) perceived as living outside traditional understandings of gender. We will feature opportunities for case-specific consultations with some of the leaders in the field of gender-affirmative care and support. Altogether, the day will provide the information and tools needed to further empower the young people we support to effectively navigate their world.

In the past, many professionals attending Friday's event have also found it useful to participate in the companion Gender Spectrum Conference. Also taking place at Saint Mary's College of California, this conference will occur on July 25 - 27, and provides a unique opportunity to participate in programming and activities specifically designed for young people, their families, and the community of professionals who support them.

The program for 2014 is still in the works, but here is a link to last year's program so you can get a sense of the type of programming we provide: 2013 Program.
